Fall in Carlsbad Comes With a Corn Maze and a Little Coastal Chaos
October in Carlsbad can be confusing. You’re ready for pumpkins, your neighbors have Halloween decorations up, and the beach still sounds like a perfectly reasonable afternoon plan.
We make room for both.
At Carlsbad Strawberry Company on Cannon Road, fall has its own place to land. The pumpkin patch, flower fields and corn maze give you a reason to trade your usual weekend routine for a few hours outside. And once October evenings roll around, there’s a scarier option for anyone who thinks finding their way through the corn sounds a little too easy.
Take the scenic route through fall
There’s something appealing about a plan that doesn’t require much of an itinerary. Pick a pumpkin. Wander through the flowers. Let someone else insist they know the way out of the maze.
The farm’s fall lineup includes a regular corn maze, tractor rides and visits with sheep, goats and rabbits. General admission covers the pumpkin patch, marigold and celosia fields, games and several play areas, while the maze and some other activities cost extra. Carlsbad Strawberry Company
For families, that means you can choose the activities that fit your afternoon. For friends or couples, it’s an excuse to put the phones away for a while, aside from the inevitable pumpkin photo.
You don’t need a dramatic change in the weather to enjoy a change in routine.
After dark, the mood changes
If your idea of October includes a good scare, the haunted corn maze deserves its own spot on the calendar.
The 2026 haunted maze runs Friday and Saturday nights from October 2 through October 31, between 7 and 10 p.m. Organizers describe it as an experience for teenagers and adults, so families with younger children may prefer the daytime activities. Carlsbad Strawberry Company
A little friendly advice: decide who’s leading before you go in. Everyone is suddenly less confident about their navigation skills when something is waiting around the corner.
The scares support something local
There’s a community connection behind the Halloween fun. Carlsbad Strawberry Company partners with the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation on the haunted maze, with proceeds helping support the foundation’s environmental education work. Carlsbad, CA
It’s a detail that makes the outing feel more connected to the place we live. A night out in the fields helps support learning about the local environment, too.
What to know before you go
You’ll find Carlsbad Strawberry Company at 1050 Cannon Road. The published pumpkin season runs September 14 through November 8.
October general admission is $20 Monday through Thursday and $25 Friday through Sunday. The regular corn maze is an additional $10. Haunted maze admission is $25 per person, separate from farm admission. Carlsbad Strawberry Company
Wear shoes you’re comfortable walking in outdoors, bring a light layer if you’re staying into the evening, and check the farm’s website for current hours and activity availability. Daytime activities have earlier closing times than the Friday and Saturday evening schedule. Carlsbad Strawberry Company
Whether you’re new to Carlsbad or have driven past those fields for years, this is a good reason to stop. Make an afternoon of it, bring someone who takes corn-maze directions far too seriously, and leave with a pumpkin for the porch.
The beach will still be there tomorrow.
